BAY HARBOR

A kitchen with white walls, wooden and black cabinetry, a white stove, cutting boards, and plants on the counters and shelves.
A cozy kitchen with open wooden shelves holding bowls, glasses, and mugs. A window above the sink reveals greenery outside. The countertops have a coffee maker, a bowl of apples, and candles. Hanging utensils are on the wall.

Five miles of Little Traverse Bay, and a standard of finish to match.

Modern multi-story house with large glass windows, black accents, and a landscaped yard with trees and bushes, under a blue sky with scattered clouds.

Bay Harbor was a cement quarry until 1994.

What followed is the largest reclamation project in North America: eleven hundred acres along five miles of Little Traverse Bay shoreline, a hundred-acre harbor cut from the old workings and opened to Lake Michigan, and a village, inn, yacht club and golf built on top of it. Thirty years on and some of the most amazing homes exist at this location.

A house on this shoreline takes weather off the open bay from the northwest and sits on engineered ground.

That is the part most trades find out late.
